Have you ever heard of affiliate marketing? Have you ever wondered what is affiliate marketing? Several years ago I wondered the same thing. I knew it was something you could from home in your pajamas (that is what I was told). At that time I discovered a book called the Super Affiliate Handbook by Rosalind Gardner. That book spelled it all out to me. What it was, how to do it and all the details involved!

So lets get back to the question! What is affiliate marketing? Affiliate is a term used for someone who is associated with someone or something. Marketing, well we all know what marketing is! So put them together and it is a way to earn commissions recommending other peoples stuff! In a sense it is giving a referral out to someone!

Here is an example. If I really was into wall paper. Say that I love decorating and I want to make some money teaching others how to do it and what to buy. I would find a wall paper company and sign up as an affiliate. I am then given a link that is tied to my affiliate account. Next I start a blog about how to use wall paper. When I am writing blog posts I recommend certain wall paper. I then use my link given from the wall paper company in my blog post. When my readers click on that link (because they know, like and trust me) and purchase I get a commission from the purchase.

It is that simple. You have a link, you share the link with others, when they purchase you get paid! Now you do not have to limit yourself when it comes to sharing your affiliate links. You can share these links on Squidoo, Twitter, Facebook, create an ebook, this list goes on and on. I hope that answers the question for you – what is affiliate marketing!
